This site has no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. Below is what is collected, by whom, and why.
Who runs this site
This site is run by shanhai art & culture. For any privacy question or request, write to contact@redsalt.art.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel's servers log each request: your IP address, your browser's user agent, the page requested and the time. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure. They are kept for a short period and then deleted.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, clicks on our social links and 404-game results (finished or failed, level, number of moves). The data is aggregated, uses no cookies and sets no identifier that follows you across other sites.
Cookie
One functional cookie, NEXT_LOCALE, remembers the language you chose. It lasts one year, stores only the language (zh or en) and is used for nothing else. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner.
Stored on your device
Your browser keeps a few settings locally and never sends them to us. In localStorage: rs-motion (your motion on/off choice) and rs-exit-best-* (your best score on each level of the 404 game). In sessionStorage: rs-boot-v2 (whether you have already seen the opening screen this visit). Clear your browser data to remove them.
Maps
The outbreak map loads its tiles from Mapbox or OpenFreeMap. With each tile request, those services receive your IP address and your browser's user agent, and Mapbox also records map-load events. The map library (Mapbox) stores an anonymous identifier in your browser's localStorage and sends it to Mapbox with those map-load events. Their own privacy policies apply.
YouTube
YouTube content is opened or loaded only after you click. Until then, this site sends nothing to YouTube. After you click, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
No ads, no sale
We show no ads. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising ("sell" and "share" as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, CCPA).
Your rights
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you may ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, object to or restrict its processing, and complain to your local data protection authority. California residents have the equivalent rights under the CCPA. Write to contact@redsalt.art and we will reply within the time the law allows.
Processing in the United States
This site and its logs are processed in the United States by Vercel. If you are in mainland China, that counts as cross-border processing under the PIPL; contact us to exercise your rights under the PIPL.
